Stamp of the Week: 1946 Peace Issue - 1d Parliament

The commemorative stamp issue of 1946 celebrated victory and peace following the conclusion of the Second World War. 

The set was designed by James Berry and it comprised eleven stamps with an issue date of 1 April 1946. The stamps depicted a range of themes including tributes to the airforce, army, navy, and the National Memorial in Wellington.

1d Parliament

The one penny stamp of the issue depicts New Zealand’s parliament building with a portrait of King George VI inset in an oval surmounted by a Royal Crown.
